It’s finally the 1st of October! *jumps up and down, cheering* What do you do when it’s the first day of your favorite month? You celebrate, that’s what you do.

Okay, so I won’t lie to you, I woke up today with no plan. I was thinking, “it’s finally my day off, so I’m going to hang out at home all day, and put up every Halloween decoration I can find”, but I should have known that would never work out. (I’m not mad about it.)

I was working on the overall appearance of this blog, sipping on a big mug of hot chocolate, and being way too excited about my new socks with little Frankenstein’s on them, when my best friend asked me to go check out some yard sales with her. After driving around aimlessly, and only three yard sales later, we were suddenly heading west on I-90. It wasn’t too long before we were surrounded by the amazing fall goodness that lives in Spearfish Canyon, SD.

The sound of the rushing creek was barely audible along with the crunching of thousands of yellow, brown, and red leaves under our feet. We walked along trails that lead to beautiful waterfalls, and marveled at how excited, and amazed my friends three year old was as she took in the surroundings. It truly makes you envy that brand new sense of wonder that children have, and makes you wish you could go back to simpler days.

At one point a group of people passed us on the trail, and upon seeing a guy holding a stick, the little one stuck her hand out at him and said, “I want a stick!”. That confidence of hers baffles me, I wish I had that. Being a nice guy, he immediately handed her the stick with a smile, and the group continued on their way.

On our way back to Rapid City we took a detour to visit one of our favorite rock shops. We had found it at random a few months ago, and fell in love with the sweet old man that runs it, and his litter of baby wolves he was raising there. Unfortunately, when we arrived we were disappointed to find that the shop was closed for the day. As we were leaving I noticed large, out door kennels at the far side of the property, and got a glance at a large, dog like animal, with white fur. The baby wolves were getting so big!

Spontaneous little adventures are not only a great way to celebrate something that makes you happy, but also a great activity to bring into your life in general. Being outdoors, and soaking in the scenery our great planet has to offer is a very peaceful and beautiful way to spend some of your free time.

Happy October Everyone!

Also, this is my first Blog post! I’m sooo excited!

 Live Bravely!

Always,

Danielle B.
